Stories of Hope
Maria and Don
Maria and Don were two months behind on their rental payments for their apartment in Jamaica Plain where they lived with their three children. They’d fallen behind in their rent when their three-year old died of an acute asthma attack.
The family approached a Family-to-Family Project affiliated agency as a last resort, seeking assistance before they fell further behind in their rent and eviction proceedings started. With no life insurance, the family exhausted their savings for funeral services and plane tickets for their parents to attend the services. Don and Maria lost valuable work hours as hourly employees during this difficult time.
The Family-to-Family Project made a direct payment to their landlord, supporting this family through a personal tragedy. With their home secure, they’ve been able to grieve the unexpected loss of their youngest child without worrying about losing their home.
